Hunting and fishingDisability sporting licensesDiscounted annual or three-year hunting and fishing licenses are available to qualifying residents with disabilities.For the veteran pathway, provide VA documentation of 100% disability and Georgia residency. EducationGeorgia HERO ScholarshipEligible recipients may receive up to $2,000 per academic year and $8,000 total, subject to category, enrollment and available funds.Qualifying Georgia National Guard or reserve combat-zone service after February 1, 2003, and specified member, child or spouse pathways. Income taxMilitary retirement income exclusionFor 2026, retirees under 62 may exclude $17,500, plus another $17,500 with qualifying earned income; age-based retirement exclusions apply later. The enacted $65,000 military exclusion for those under 65 begins with tax year 2027.Eligible military retirement income and state return requirements; each spouse must qualify separately. EmploymentState veteran preferenceCovered state examinations give five veteran points or 10 qualifying disabled-veteran points on passing scores. Preference also applies under the rules for equally qualified applicants when no examination is used.Qualifying service and discharge, position requirements and documentation.
