Vehicle registrationDisabled veteran platesQualifying veterans can apply for disabled veteran plates and applicable registration-fee relief. The first qualifying plate carries a $3 annual specialty fee. A DV plate alone does not establish eligibility for accessible parking spaces.At least 50% service-connected disability, or at least 40% from lower-extremity amputation, and receipt of disability compensation. Hunting and fishingFree disabled veteran Super ComboThe package covers hunting, freshwater and saltwater fishing, and listed state endorsements. A federal duck stamp is separate.Resident or nonresident veteran receiving compensation with at least 50% disability, or loss of use of a foot or leg. State parksTexas Parklands PassportsThe Veterans passport gives the holder free park entry. The Disabled Veterans passport also admits a companion without an entry fee.The Veterans passport requires honorable discharge. The Disabled Veterans passport requires at least 60% service-connected disability or loss of a lower extremity, with accepted proof. EducationHazlewood tuition exemptionEligible veterans, spouses and children may receive up to 150 credit hours of tuition exemption and most fee charges at Texas public higher-education institutions.Veteran, spouse and child pathways have different service, Texas connection, residency and educational requirements. Bring your current VA benefit or award letter and the documents required by the administering agency. Exemptions may require an application, county approval and renewal. Federal compensation and state benefit eligibility are separate.
